Le vendredi 28 mars, étudiants, enseignants et intervenants extérieurs vous invitent à une sélection de courtes interventions autour de l’Open Source dans les pratiques numériques.
Croisant typographie, graphisme, son et fablab, les présentations introduisent les recherches à l’œuvre au sein de l’école et tracent des liens vers un réseau local libre.

Déjà Max donnait de la Vox pour clamer l’universalité de la typographie. Excoffon interpellait l’homme de la rue et insufflait dans ses bronches encrassées un Mistral salutaire. Le fougueux Boltana mettait les machines au diapason du génie de la main. L’infatigable Blanchard réinventait la carte du tendre où se mêlaient en infinis entrelacs signes, sons et sens.
Nous, VTF, rejetons intrépides de la génération Postscript, nous poursuivons, à la vitesse de l’électron, cet illustre cortège. Tel Spartacus, nous libérons les caractères du joug des règlements iniques et des conventions arbitraires ; tel Ben Hur sur un char gigantesque, nous accueillons amazones et auriges du script et, tous formidables, armés de hallebardes-bic et d’arbalètes à casseaux, coiffés d’un feutre à plumes de Bézier, nous défions sans plus tarder l’époque aguicheuse et palimpseste.
vtf is an experimental type foundry delivering free-of-charge typefaces under *SIL OFL licence* or creative commons licences.

Manuel Schmalstieg opère à la croisée de la vidéo, de la performance et de l’art numérique. Après avoir pratiqué la bande-dessinée, le film d’animation et le DJ-ing, il s’oriente dès la fin des années 90 vers la performance vidéo en temps réel et les processus interactifs.
Passionné par les modes de création collectifs, il met sur pied plusieurs structures de production dont N3krozoft Ltd (think tank technologique), Low-Rez.TV (laboratoire de vidéo-surveillance) et Greyscale Press (transformation de données en objets livresques).

SIL Open Font License (OFL)
The SIL Open Font License (OFL) is a free, libre and open source license specifically designed for fonts and related software based on our experience in font design and linguistic software engineering.
The OFL provides a legal framework and infrastructure for worldwide development, sharing and improvement of fonts and related software in a collaborative manner. It enables font authors to release their work under a common license that allows use, bundling, modification and redistribution. It encourages shared value, is not limited to any specific computing platform or environment, and can be used by other organizations or individuals.
The OFL meets the specific needs of typographic design and engineering as well as the gold standards of the FLOSS (Free/Libre and Open Source Software) community, namely the cultural values and guidelines from the FSF, the Debian Free Software Guidelines, as well as the Open Source Definition. It draws inspiration from concepts and elements found in other licenses, but our improvements in the specific area of fonts have made the licensing model work better than other approaches currently in use.
SIL International serves language communities worldwide, building their capacity for sustainable language development, by means of research, translation, training and materials development. We have been thinking about more open and participative models for a while, for example through our partnerships with UNESCO (Initiative B@bel) and our work on the Gentium typeface. À propos des fontes libres
Floss Manual
Les auteurs de ce livre à propos des fontes libres ont été guidés par les objectifs suivants :
— décrire le contexte historique, les attentes et les besoins exprimés à la fois par les graphistes et les utilisateurs face aux barrières de l’approche propriétaire dans l’usage et la création de typos et de fontes ;
— expliquer les enjeux et recommander une approche juridique validée par la communauté du logiciel libre ;
— donner des exemples pratiques pour tirer parti des méthodologies et des outils librement disponibles pour réaliser des fontes libres, les publier et en tirer profit sous diverses formes.
Ce livre sous licence libre est une production originale en français ; plusieurs co-auteurs francophones de différents pays ont participé à sa rédaction.
